I have updated windows patches today on Windows Server 2012. When I click re-start, server stuck at 'Notifying services that Windows is shutting down'. it never shutdown. I left my server for 2 hours now. still same message appear. Pls help. I need to up the server how ever.

If its not responding you're probably going to need to reboot it.

I have removed power cable & plugged again. Server starts & again I tried to shut down the server same issue happens

So it states "shutting down" after you restart it?

Hi,
1.Which update did you installed,please try to uninstall it and test again.
2.You could try this command: shutdown -s -f -t 0 (in priviledge mode).
3.Please check the event viewer,is there any related message?
3. Please try to shutdown services manualy to find which makes the problem.
4. Please try to return to previous restore point.
