Question

I get 1 out of 4 this error in Event Viewer, checked all suggestions on this and other Windows forums including power settings, enabling all devices, turn off Wake-on Intel network adapters, power settings of my 2 graphics boards. It looks like my laptop devices are incompatible with Windows Fast Start hibernation process. The hiberfil.sys gets somehow corrupted when I turn off the system using the Windows start key (Shut Down) and after I checked that everything is closed (even check Task Mngr if Edge has closed). SFC states no integrity conflicts and everything runs smoothly except Fast Startup. BTW this is my 3 laptop that is having hibernation issues with Windows (2 HP and now Acer too). My configuration: Aspire 5 a515-54G, Windows 10-1909 x64 Home.
Any suggestions besides the command powercfg -h off?

The fix for event ID 29, Windows failed startup, is typically to turn off Windows fast startup.
This worked earlier in this thread.
(Turn on hibernation and turn off Windows fast startup)
There are many causes of event ID 6008. It always occurs with a manual power off.

There are three options to try:
1) hibernation on and Windows fast startup on
2) hibernation off and Windows fast startup off
3) hibernation on and Windows fast startup off
Open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste:
Powercfg -h off
(this turns hibernation and windows fast startup of)
Powercfg -h on
(this turns hibernation and Windows fast startup on
See this link to turn off Windows fast startup:
https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/4189-turn-off-fast-startup-windows-10-a.html
Please turn hibernation on and Windows fast startup off.
If there are problems then turn hibernation off which also turns Windows fast startup off.

I will try that
I also get Event 6008 Logged as a dirty shutdown.
This is what is causing the corruption of my hiberfil.sys. I suspect that this Intel GPU driver is causing it

To evaluate the computer environment please post logs for troubleshooting.
Using administrative command prompt copy and paste this whole command.
Make sure the default language is English so that the logs can be scanned and read.
Choose the applicable link for the operating system:
https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/3813-language-add-remove-change-windows-10-a.html
https://www.eightforums.com/threads/language-add-or-remove-in-windows-8.5849/
https://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/87317-display-language-change.html
The command will automatically collect the computer files and place them on the desktop.
Then use 7zip to organize the files and one drive, drop box, or google drive to place share links into the thread for troubleshooting.
This command will automatically collect these files: msinfo32, mini dumps, drivers, hosts, install, uninstall, services, startup, event viewer files, etc.
Open administrative command prompt and copy and paste the whole command:
copy %SystemRoot%\minidump\.dmp "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\&dxdiag /t %Temp%\dxdiag.txt© %Temp%\dxdiag.txt "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\SFdebugFiles\&type %SystemRoot%\System32\drivers\etc\hosts >> "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\hosts.txt"&systeminfo > "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\systeminfo.txt"&driverquery /v > "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\drivers.txt" &msinfo32 /nfo "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\msinfo32.nfo"&wevtutil qe System /f:text > "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\eventlog.txt"® export HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\uninstall.txt"® export "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components" "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\installed.txt"&net start > "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\services.txt"&REM wmic startup list full /format:htable >"%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\startup.html"&wmic STARTUP GET Caption, Command, User >"%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\startup.txt"
There is one file for you to find manually: dxdiag:
In the left lower corner search type: dxdiag > When the DirectX Diagnostic Tool opens click on the next page button so that each tab is opened > click on save all information > save to desktop > post one drive or drop box share link into the thread

Did you get those links to One Note with the environmental files?
I did get a new error from Service Control Manager ID 7023, any idea? (never seen this before)

Actually my Acer laptop has a fourth method to shut down called Hibernation and if ticked it will leave a power button on the taskbar that will execute Hibernation. By far the fastest shutdown and Startup I have seen and so far no errors. What do you think of that method?

These are trial and error steps.
Please choose the settings that give the best performance.
See if you can post a share link for msinfo32.

Hello,
Is there any change on current system like installing updates especially for drivers?
If so, please run system restore back to the point when it work fine. BTW, you can refer to the following link.

The logs were recently cleaned or it was a fresh installation.
The BIOS is out of date.
There were multiple event viewer entries related to the Intel network adapter.
.
.
Please perform the following steps:
1) The BIOS: Version/Date Insyde Corp. V1.11, 01/08/2019
Upgrade the BIOS: 1.11 > 1.16
https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/support-product/7982?b=1
.
.
2) Uninstall and reinstall: Netwtw08.sys
Intel(R) Wireless Adapter Driver for Windows 10 - 64 Bit
c:\windows\system32\drivers\netwtw08.sys
Install the new driver from the Acer website:
https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/support-product/7982?b=1
.
.
3) If the computer has Ccleaner (do not install the software if it is not already installed) > click windows tab or custom clean > scroll down to system and advanced > post an image into the thread

Hi Sylvia, system restore is not going to help as the "shut down corrupts my hiberfil.sys file" problem was there from the beginning, this is a 1 month old laptop. Yes I restored my complete system 2 weeks ago after I tried to delete CCLEANER remnant in my registry and ended up BSOD. After I restored from an external backup (W7) image and 1 Intel PC! driver (Windows Update), got Intel UHD control panel from the MSFT Store. Nothing else. I ran DISM and SFC /scannow 2 days ago (no system integrity issues), when I just hibernate and wake-up using the power button I don't get any event errors (5 times now). I would like to normally shutdown and fast startup though but that causes errors. I suspect the Intel UHD GPU drivers (out of date)

The logs were recently cleaned or it was a fresh installation. Yes cleaned last week, and system is 7 weeks old
The BIOS is out of date. I know, Acer PHP support only offered Insyde 1.12, I will now flash 1.16
There were multiple event viewer entries related to the Intel network adapter. That is a new one for me, I suspected an issue with INTEL UHD GPU as that driver is 10 months old but I do have WIFI issues (get disconnected) so I will get the new driver from Acer first before uninstalling Netwtw08.sys? I don't have LAN here just WIFI.
If the computer has Ccleaner: *NO, I uninstalled that weeks ago (free copy) and it left crap behind in my registry, don't know how to get rid of the 13 CCleaner keys, some are shared with Outlook and Acer apps. I don't want to reinstall CCLEANER ever again. I don't know what you mean by: "*click windows tab or custom clean"? Do you detect a problem with my registry?
I downloaded Bios 1.16 and Intel WIFI driver set, if I flash BIOS and BSOD how to get the old BIOS back, can I backup my 1.11 BIOS first?
Frank
Friday, March 27, 2020 5:57 AM
OK, I flashed my Bios to 1.16 (no issues) but did not go into BIOS to check the boot settings...
I then uninstalled and reinstalled Intel WIFI and checked the new version and date (OK)
I then went to Power (in CPL) and enabled (checked) Fast Startup and Hibernation, saved that and Shut down using the Windows Start key. Waited a while and rebooted; took too long for Fast Start (issues).
Checked the Invent Viewer and got 2 recent errors:
Event ID 29 Fatal boot error (corrupted hiberfil.sys)
Event ID 6008 Unexpected shutdown
So back to square 1

One last thing that worries me is those 13 keys, remnants from CCLEANER uninstall in my registry, I zipped the registry keys and data, can you have a look which one I can safely delete (maybe after take ownership) and which ones I should not touch (some are Store links)
Thanks
Frank

I hope that I am not going to have Nvidia GPU issues with that Bios 1.16 that you recommended as Acer stated
I tried PHYSX GeForce MX250 control panel and that seems to work with Bios 1.16
Can I go back (flash) to 1.12 or 1.11 if I get GPU issues?
Frank

Ccleaner is an excellent tool that can be used without problems.
Those that have problems typically had used the tool for registry cleaning.
End users may like to clean everything and are often unaware of unexpected problems that occur over time when the tool is used to clean the registry.
.
.
The best option is to:
a) clean install Windows 10
b) install all new drivers from the Acer website
c) install applications
d) perform windows updates
e) make free backup images
.
.
For these problems:
malware
ransomware
operating system corruption
registry corruption
failure to boot
drive failure
etc.
a fix can be easy and typically is performed in < 1 hour by restoring a backup image.
