Multiple renew mentions in DHCP logs for the same IP

Question

Tuesday, February 20, 2018 5:11 PM

Hi

We have a standalone DHCP (WS2K12 R2) Server at our office which caters more than 2500 clients. During peak work hours we observed a latency of 2 to 3 minutes for the IP renewal.

While checking the DHCP logs, it's noticed that the renewal event ID is occurring in every 5 minutes or less than that. Our lease period is 3 hours and we are not able to find any issues in the DHCP console and event viewer.

Below sample log for reference.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks in Advance!!

Hi Candy

We found the issue was related to specific models of laptops and a driver upgrade on the same solved our issues.

Thanks for your response.

Hi ,

As far as I know ,the error code 9554 events are symptomatic of the Queue being full.

Please try to increase DynamicDNSQueueLength.

Check the value of the registry key “DynamicDNSQueueLength”, increase it to see if it helps solve your issue.

If it sill doesn't work, you might need to use network monitor to analyze the packet traffic.

Also, check if the following link is helpful:

Dynamic DNS registration process can cause queue build up and failures

Thanks Candy !!

Working on the registry modifications part.

This DNS update and IP renewal requests is causing the server busy and we are in thought that this might be a cause of the network latency.

Also we noticed that the lease time at DHCP server and client end is not matching.

For Eg: An IP released at 9.30 AM and renewed at 12.30 PM (3 hrs which is fine) on a machine and same IP is renewed on the same machine after 2 hours (2:30 PM). Then it renewed for another 3 hours lease.

Any suggestions please.

Hi ,

>>Working on the registry modifications part.
This DNS update and IP renewal requests is causing the server busy and we are in thought that this might be a cause of the network latency.

I am pleased to know that the information is helpful to you.

As this thread focuses on your first question” During peak work hours we observed a latency of 2 to 3 minutes for the IP renewal.”, regarding other questions about lease time is not matching, I would suggest you post one new thread per question so we can handle them separately.

And if the information provided was helpful, please "mark it as answer" to help other community members find the helpful reply quickly.
