Hi, I am trying to install Visual Studio Pro 2015 from ISO (VS2015_ENT_ENU) this problem also occur during online modification installation. Basically i cant install "Python Tolls for Visual Studio" "Cross platform mobile development" "Power shell for visual studio" because always I am getting communicate that he could not finish installation because "This operation returned because the timeout period expired"
Fully updated clean installation of windows 7. I simply have no idea what's to do.

Hi Mathew,
you mentioned that the VS installation is offline, the components need to be downloaded from the Internet, in this case ,I suggest that you could use /layout command to do the offline installation.
1. please use a USD or Disc to download the components in other network environment.
2. copy the components installiaon files to your local computer
3. please run the installation file with /layout command
just like this:

From you error log, it shows Exception when connecting secondary installer pipe, then the operation has timed out. To fix this issue , here are our suggestions:
1. Disable your Anti-Virus or Anti-Spyware software
2. Be sure that your OS has been patched up
3. Please make sure that win7(sp1) has been update, here is a link about how to install win7(sp1):http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/install-windows-7-service-pack-1
4.Please update all of your computer drivers to make sure that your VS installation can connect relevant drivers well.

Hi Lana,
Thank You for fast response. I am replaying with delay because I wanted to be sure that I haven't missed anything.
The procedure didn't help. I am sure that my OS is patched and sp1 updated. I have pretty decent setup with hexacore Intel processor with all drivers installed as well. My Anti-Virus is Kaspersky and i tried with paused protection and even I uninstalled software but it didn't help.
I've read log and saw that timed out operation while VS is connecting with secondary pipe. The installation is like suspended for a 5 minutes than I am receiving the failure message. When I am trying to install VS I am also having error messages and installation wont finish. The way i menage to install VS is by MODIFYING and adding components than by clicking REPAIR. Also when I am repairing VS I am getting timeout failure message.
The problem occur during online and offline modification installation. Basically i cant install "Python Tolls for Visual Studio" "Cross platform mobile development" "Power shell for visual studio"
I have VS installation CD from Microsoft website.
I am trying to fix it for a 5th day by now.
VS while C programming works fine and I didn't noticed any problem with already installed software but i need those extra components.
PS: I can provide any data if needed.

Thank you for replying again, I’m sorry it still doesn’t work after trying these steps.
PlatformInstaller.PipeBase Connection timeout causes the failure installation of the components.
In this case, it may be related to network problem, here are our suggestions:
1.Please check if your local network environment connection is totally ok.
2.Please check your firewall to make sure that it doesn’t block relevant site resource connection.
3.Please check that your proxy settings are correct and try again.
Hope that you can install these components and run programs successfully.

Hi Lana,
Thank You again. I think we are getting closer. I have installed python tools from link above and it worked! Now when I go to Program and Features in Windows Control Panel and click modifying in Visual Studio i can see that component has been installed and it works.
But I am still not able to install other components. I checked my network connection, firewall (i added installer as exception etc.) also proxy settings are fine. The problem is I am getting " timeout causes the failure installation" while I am installing VS downloaded from Microsoft site as CD image (vs2015.ent_enu.iso). I am not able to install missing components from my local hard drive as well.

Hi, my connection is fine. I took my unit to work and and could not install VS thru Microsoft installer. Same error "connection timeout"
I have installation disc of visual studio 2015 downloaded from microsoft site (vs2015.ent_enu.iso) and I am getting same "timeout connection". It's offline installation from my local hard drive. No internet connection needed. Same error
I am sure it's installer fault. It's bugged. Have no idea what's wrong.
I will try to find installers of missing components on Microsoft site.

The Cross platform mobile development contains a lot of things which are not contains in Visual Studio ISO. They are download from third party site. The components list are like:
So if I was you I will check my network setting first. For example, in China we have GFW so we need some VPN if we need to download the above tools to avoid download problem. I think you may have the same problem. Another approach for you may be download the content like Lana said from the official site directly. Please try do it yourself and see the result.

Hi, I don't need internet connection to install Visual Studio. The "secondary timeout pipe" is Visual Studio installation failure. I can't even repair product because I am getting failure message. Thank You guys for help and your time. I don't believe I can fix this problem on my stationary unit. The LOG part about timeout while repairing Visual Studio. Everything is offline - i don't need internet connection because I am updating from installation disc. I tried it on my laptop and everything is fine and works while offline installation. Only on my stationary unit VS is failing.
