Migrate User from OpenLDAP to Active Directory & Change Local Profiles to Roaming Profiles

Question

Tuesday, November 12, 2013 2:08 AM

Currently I have 500 clients and it's connect to the OpenLDAP server and will be migrating to Windows Server 2012 AD. And I want the user configuration remains the same, as the display on the Desktop, Favorite, Documents, Video, Picture and Music, outlook email configuration, history, and all folders in C:\Documents and Settings\username%\

Can it be a local folder that previous users connect to the LDAP server is replaced or migrated to a New Server Roaming Profiles with Windows Server 2012?

If anyone ever experienced with this and have any suggestions, how? Please advice.

Thanks,

Hendra

Hi Hendra,

Based on my research, when using ADMT, user profile translation is one type of security translation, and profiles are translated during the migration process.

In other words, the user profiles can be migrated during the migration process of AD accounts.

You can also use a tool such as the User State Migration Tool (USMT) to migrate user data and settings to the users' new computers.

I suggest you perform a few migration experiments before migrating the actual organization.

I try using USMT to migrate user profile, it's work.

Now, I'm going to change local profile to roaming, I still have the problem about it, because all Local Profile settings not transfer/copied to roaming...

If you have any suggest, please advice..

Thanks and sorry I'm late to reply, because I'm going to try what you recommended to me.

Regards,

USMT is definitely the way to go but use USMTGUI and "get going in minutes" as Sam says :-)
