Question

Hi,
We have strange issue with our communication between failover cluster nodes. Many errors are 5120
” Cluster Shared Volume '3par-alpha-ssd-01-dedup' ('3par-alpha-ssd-01-dedup') has entered a paused state because of 'STATUS_CONNECTION_DISCONNECTED(c000020c)'. All I/O will temporarily be queued until a path to the volume is reestablished.”
If we change to Informational so we can see many 1650 errors like ” Microsoft Failover Cluster Virtual Adapter (NetFT) has missed more than 40 percent of consecutive heartbeats.
Does anyone else had the same issue with communication and failover cluster hosts with these errors.

Check for network issues at the switch and the SAN.

Hi Quantum5,
1. What is the storage do you use for the cluster, shared SAN storage or ISCSI storage or S2D?
2. Please check the network connection between clusters nodes, and connection between nodes and storage;
3. As "Philip" suggested, according to your description, it seems like a network issue, please check if there's any network change recently;
4. Please run Cluster Validation wizard, check if there's any error.
Best Regards,
Anne

Hi,
Run cluster validation, check for any latency in SAN connectivity and Network connectivity.
Check for virtual infra specific issues as well like cluster Running on Hyper-V and VMware VM.

Hi,
Cluster validation wizard shows no error. We are using fiber channel. Problem started when we upgraded from 2012 R2 to 2016. We are using HP and everything is up to date. Someone said something about preffered owner of csv and that vms should be on it. Can this solved this error? Another strange error is this 1650 errors like ” Microsoft Failover Cluster Virtual Adapter (NetFT) has missed more than 40 percent of consecutive heartbeats.
Nothing is on that network. It is completelly new one.
If I am not wrong this Microsoft Failover Cluster Virtual Adapter (NetFT) is not available in 2016 or it has be removed.

Hi Quantum5,
>If I am not wrong this Microsoft Failover Cluster Virtual Adapter (NetFT) is not available in 2016 or it has be removed.
Yes, it is removed on Server 2016 cluster.

Please check the Cluster Function Level, on Server 2016 cluster, it should be 9:
If the cluster function level is 8, we need to upgrade the cluster function level with command "Update-ClusterFunctionalLevel"
Here is an article about upgrading cluster OS, for your reference:

Hi, we have the same problem with 2012r2 to 2016 upgraded cluster. Microsoft Failover cluster virtual adapter has missed more than 40 percent conesecutive heartbeats...
Cluster level 9 , no issues in cluster validation wizard. The problem occurs every week.
Microsoft failover cluster virtual adapter is present on all nodes. (not the performance filter) ...
Thanx

Did anyone with this issue ever come up with a resolution? Thanks.
Tuesday, July 17, 2018 6:29 PM
P.S. I see a *lot* of people complaining about these issues prior to an 2016 upgrade:
'STATUS_CONNECTION_DISCONNECTED(c000020c)'.
'STATUS_UNEXPECTED_NETWORK_ERROR(c00000c4)'.
'STATUS_NO_SUCH_DEVICE(c000000e)'.
STATUS_USER_SESSION_DELETED(c0000203)'
Is it possible these errors were not generated in 2012, hence people see them after upgrading and assume there is a problem?
