Disable "Set up Outlook Mobile on my phone, too"

Question

Friday, June 30, 2017 3:55 PM

Hi

We are just going through the testing of Outlook 2016 Click to Run. We have seen when users create a new profile there is a tick box for "Set up Outlook Mobile on my phone, too"

which redirects to the following URLs for users to download the Outlook Mobile App.

https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=842368

and

https://w2.outlook.com/l/mobile?WT.mc_id=2016_accountsetup

As we aren't moving to Exchange online just yet we would rather this option wasn't suggested to users. Does anyone know how to hide this suggestion please?

Thanks

Gavin

Hi Gavin,

I'm afraid currently there is no possibility of disabling this. The only workaround available is to have it automatically unchecked for the users, and that is done by setting the following registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Setup
SetupOutlookMobileWebPageOpened
DWORD
Value: 1

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\16.0\outlook\Setup
SetupOutlookMobileWebPageOpened
DWORD
Value: 1

Thank you for your understanding and support.

Regards,

Steve Fan

Thanks Steve, that looks to work. It would be nice to hide that option completely.

Hello Steve,

are you going to include this option also to the ADMX template? It would make it easier to select this option in the GPO template instead of using the preference section.

I would like to change this option on 90.000 clients automatically.

Thanks, Dana

Yes:

  • Go to your GPO > User Configuration > Preferences > Windows Settings > Registry
  • Right click Registry and select New > Registry Item (or, create a new Registry Item under a Collection Item, aka folder)
  • Fill out the form as follows and click OK:

  • Fill out the form for the Policies key likewise and click OK.

On the client, open CMD and run GPUPDATE, or wait for the new Group Policy refresh interval.

Can be set with GPO:

User Configuration --> Policies --> Administrative Templates --> Microsoft Outlook 2016 --> Outlook Options --> Other

Set "Disable Outlook Mobile Hyperlink" to "Enabled".

I'm not allowed to add a picture at the moment. :-(
