Best Practices for SBS GP and OU removal After SBS 2011 Demotion

Question

Monday, April 24, 2017 5:39 PM

We are close to wrapping up a transition from SBS 2011 Standard to Windows 2012R2 Standard. Email has already been migrated to O365 and we understand the practice to remove Exchange from the server. One thing that we have ran into the past with this type of transition was removing the SBS built in Group Policies and Organizational Units from the system. Is this process the same as it would be for any other removal of OU's and GP's? Also is there any value besides not having to see remnants of SBS in the future on the Network? Are there any precautions or steps we should take in order to do this smoothly?

Hi,

I have not found complete and detail instruction about the migration from SBS to Standard Server on Microsoft Official Website.

Below articles are similar, and they can be considered as a reference.

Remove legacy Active Directory Group Policy objects (optional):

STEP 32 – REMOVING OLD GROUP POLICY ITEMS:

Delete DNS entries of the Source Server:
