Team Explorer for Microsoft Visual Studio 2015 Update 3 CTP1 - Fatal error during installation

Question

Hey, I think I tried 20 times to install Visual Studio Community 2015 today but it didn't work because of this one error: "Team Explorer for Microsoft Visual Studio 2015 Update 3 CTP1 - Fatal error during installation". I think I tried everything. I hope somebody will help me. I wanted to add the log and a picture of this error but I can't add images or links because my account isn't verified.

Dear Sara,

How do attach log files in this forum? I have similar problem and can help you debug it, but I need to be able to attach the file. In addition, the file has to be sanitized because it includes my user name and other details I do not wish to disclose. In the worst case, I might prefer to send the file to you by email instead.

Please advise.

hi,

I am experiencing the exact same problem with the installation.

I am running a 64bit Windows 7 Sp1 system.
While installing VS Studio community 2015 the setup terminated displaying "Team Explorer for MS visual studio 2015 update 3 CTP1 - fatal error during installation". It prompted me to to restart the machine. After restarting and trying to open VS studio the error message was displayed to reinstall the application. However the install operation terminates with the same error repeatedly.

Please help ASAP.

** Delete installation cache**

Perhaps the installation failed due to corrupt files in the cache. When installation fails, remove all Visual Studio cache related items and do a full re-installation. To do this, run command prompt (Run as Administrator) and type: "cd /programdata/package cache/" then press enter. Then type "del /f /s *.msi /f /s *.cab" then press enter.

Delete temporary file data stored on your computer

Open up File Explorer and go to "C:\Users\Your User Account Name]\AppData\Local\Microsoft". Then delete the following folders: VSCommon, VisualStudio, Blend, VsGraphics, ApplicationInsights, vshub, Team Foundation, Web Platform Installer and MsBuild. After this, run the Visual Studios 2015 Installer again.
