Windows Attenuation Always On

Question

Monday, January 22, 2018 1:43 AM

I've turned the internet upside-down and it seems to be an unfixable problem.

Whenever I'm playing any game, while also using Discord, Skype, etc, and somebody else talks, the game volume gets lowered by a considerable amount. I've pretty much determined that it's a Windows issue. I know that going to Sound>Communications takes me to attenuation, which should be what I'm looking for. It works if I mute, 80%, or 50%. However, if I turn it off, nothing changes. It takes it down to either 80% or 50%. I've also gone Speakers>Properties>Advanced and both tried checking and unchecking "allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" to no avial. I've also done that with the microphone and it doesn't change anything either. I've also gone into Discord's settings and even un/reinstalled before trying Skype.

All drivers are updated and the system is up to date.

This started happening after I wiped my PC and reinstalled Windows 10 due to user error on storage (was saving everything to 250GB SSD and not 1TB disk and decided that wiping was easier).

So yeah, that's my predicament. Not incrediby debilitating but annoying nevertheless.

Hi,

I am considering whether the graphics driver is incompatible, after updating the new system version.

You could try to use previous versions of the driver to check. Then check the steps below:

1.Click the settings cog.

2.Select the voice tab.

3.Click “Advanced".

4.Lower the attenuation slider to 0%.

Regards,
