whats the difference between a lock screen and a screensaver

Question

Thursday, May 9, 2019 10:59 AM

Hi,

Im struggling to find something that I think should be fairly basic - difference between windows 10 lock screen and screen saver, and how to set them in GPOs.

Im really looking for a definitive solution for settings around these two items by GPO for versions of Windows 10. My motivator is to disable the screen saver.

Any help appreciated , as usual . :-)

Thanks

Kim

Hi,

The lock screen is a new feature introduced with Windows 8 and also available in Windows 10.

Once you've altered the Screen Saver Settings box, it resets some of the values you had placed on the lock screen personalizationsettings screen. Specifically, the lock screen gets set back to "Picture" instead of "Slideshow" .

To disable the logon screen saver, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, click Run, type regedt32, and then click OK.

2. Locate the following registry key:

HKEY_USERS\DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop

3. In the Details pane, double-click the ScreenSaveActive string value item.

4. In the Value data box, replace the number 1 with the number 0, and then click OK.

NOTE:Make sure that you back up the registry before you modify it.
