No more Update History. Why ?

Question

Friday, August 11, 2017 12:47 AM | 1 vote

Recently my update history has disappeared, although I have installed dozens of updates.

I get "No updates have been installed yet".

This is flagrantly untrue.

What is going to happen when I get more updates come through, or will they not come through any more ?

****************************************

I wrote that on 10th August. My wife also has a computer also using Windows 10 Version 1607 on the same internet connection. This morning it required a restart to instal an update. At that time, its update history was complete I checked it. I restarted the computer (as we would have had to do sooner or later). The same thing has happened.  "No updates have been installed yet".

What are we supposed  to do ? Microsoft must be responsible for this. We bought these two laptop computers (one an HP. one a Toshiba) in good faith. The same thing has happened to both of them within a couple of days of each other .

Now I have found a partial solution to this myself !

If you click to the page where it says

"No updates have been installed yet".

it still offers to allow you to uninstall updates.

Click to do that (you don't actually have to uninstall any).

They are all still listed there, so that you can uninstall what you wish to, or none.

Somebody else on another forum says that you can still read the list of updates if you view it from the Control Panel rather than via Settings.  The culprit which has done this is KB 4034658 , the last update to be installed on both my computers. Some people seem to think that we are now disconnected from the thingy that sends out future updates. What is Microsoft going to do about this ?

Noticed the same blank update history on a 2016 Server after the August update, the Control Panel Installed Updates does show them.

This would be expected behavior whenever you deleted the folder c:\windows\softwaredistribution.

net stop wuauerv

rd c:\windows\softwaredistribution /s /q

net start wuauserv

->history blank.

net stop wusuerv

rd c:\windows\softwaredistribution /s /q

net start wuauserv

->history blank.

Nope, just installed the August update did not delete anything.

Fresh Windows 10 1803, installed first CU update 05-2018, rebooted. See in event viewer, that update is installed, but the install history is empty.

Used Windows 10 1709, multiple CUs installed, the install history is empty. I remember seeing that update-history full with history info before on this machine, but now it is blank.

Windows 2016 server, installed 01-2018 CU, seeing that info for a long time fine. Now after 05-2018 update, the list is blank...

What is happening? :o

Legacy control panel has also that view, but all updates are like regular updates, Cumulative Update cannot be identified.

...and I never empties the SoftwareDownload folder on any of these computers.
