OneNote embedded excel file is lost

Question

Somehow I lost embedded excel from OneNote. As you can see there is no excel icon at the top of the table. I know what is being displayed is just image snapshot of the contents of file (the snapshot image shows only part of the excel hence cannot manually copy from there). Earlier when I hover mouse, "Edit" button used to appear at the top left of grid, clicking that opened sheet in excel. I checked online OneNote and only snapshot image is there. For other excel in other sheets, I can Edit or on online version, download to PC.

Hi willstay,

Based on your description, I tested in my own environment (Office 2016 & Windows 10). I found if you delete the title of the Spreadsheet, you cannot edit it any more.

So I suppose you may did mis operating cause this issue in OneNote.

I suggest you go to History- select Page Version, on the right page you can select previous date you created file in OneNote. But please NOTE this method may not absolutely successful.

If this method not work for you, you need to embed Excel spreadsheets again.

Hope it's helpful.
