Windows 10 ip configuration issue / dropping connection

Question

Tuesday, November 8, 2016 3:44 PM

Upgraded to W10 a few months ago, received the new 1-year update and that is when the issue started.  Connection will drop randomly but mostly after start up or waking from sleep mode.  Getting the connection back is not the issue.  Keeping the problem from reoccurring is.

I've updated the driver, cleared Winsock, etc.  Tried to rollback to a restore point but couldn't complete the restore for some reason.  I'm hesitant to do a fresh install of W7 since upgrading again would likely result in the same issue down the road.  Has anyone come up with a reason for this issue?

All other devices I have connected to the router do not experience this issue.  Only this W10 computer.

I did reset the router, same result.  I cleared Winsock, etc. use ipconfig /release /renew to regain connection.  Again, this is about the issue not the solution to getting a connection back.  I need to figure out what is causing the issue.

Router is a NetGear N600 WNDR 3400, driver is up to date.

PC is an ASUS CG1330

AMD Phenom II X6 1035T Processor

12 GB RAM

64-bit W10

Router is set to DHCP.  PC is shown in the attached devices.

If you're connected to a hotspot or domain network, contact the network administrator. Otherwise: 1. Unplug or turn off the device. 2. After all the lights on the device are off, wait at least 10 seconds. 3. Turn the device on or plug it back into the power outlet. To restart a router or modem that has a built-in battery, press and quickly release the Reset button.

This can sometimes resolve an intermittent problem.

I've tried all of those with no permanent fix.  Those solutions fix the symptoms.  Upon waking from sleep mode the default gateway is lost.  Only /release /renew cmds will refresh the default gateway.  Considering a static address for this pc but that won't solve the underlying issue.

I never set any of my computers to sleep, so I can't comment on that aspect. However I have seen issues like this relating to clients not working properly set to DHCP on various routers. When I run into those situations, I opt for using static IP. It doesn't hurt to try it.
