Question

Hi!
I Hope this is the right forum.
I am having trouble logging into my computer via LAN whenever the computer locks. I get the "Internal error occurred" error message.
Since the computer to which I'm trying to connect is a PC, I tried setting sleep or lock the screen time to 'Never'. This doesn't seem to work - usually after a day windows gets locked anyway. I also set 'turn off hard disk' and 'allow hybrid sleep' to never - and it still gets locked.
I found somewhere the following solution:
Start Menu->Local Group Policy -> ‘Edit group policy’, then navigating to the following directory:
Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Remote Desktop Services > Remote Desktop Session Host > Security
On the right-hand side. Locating the ‘Require use of specific security layer for remote (RDP) connections’ and double-clicking it to edit it.
Selected 'Enabled' and then in front of Security Layer, chose RDP.
This worked for a little bit (I was able to connect even when the computer was locked) and then it stopped working.
So I guess this is a two-part question - first, why does windows keep locking the screen even though I set all sleep, screen and hard drive settings to 'never'? And second, why can't I connect to the computer when the computer is locked?
I am using windows 10, v10.0.17134.
Thanks in advance!
Yuval

You may try Microsoft Remote Desktop

Hi,

If it is domain joined client system, please check applied domain group policy and confirm that if there is any screen lock relate GP which has been applied.
Besides, we can try to disable screen lock via GP:
Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Control Panel > Personalization > Do not display the lock screen, enable this configuration and re-start system to make the change take effect.
>why can't I connect to the computer when the computer is locked?
What is the error message?
I had test on my VM, I manually locked the Windows 10, then, establish remote desktop from another system, it displays the lock screen, then, user account log on screen for me to enter user account and Password.

Hi Eve, thanks for the response.
I'm not very proficient in this area, but isn't the domain joined client system a part of Windows Server OS? The computer I am trying to access is a regular PC with Windows 10 installed.
In any case I will disabled the lock screen in the GP settings, hope it'll work. The weird thing is that every solution I have tried (described in the original post) have worked for a few days and then stopped working. The settings did not change, but the error message came back.
>>why can't I connect to the computer when the computer is locked?
**>What is the error message? **
The error I am getting is a general 'Internal Error', with no additional information :\
I will update on whether or not this fix will work.
Thanks!

Hi,

Is there any 3rd party process, including anti-virus or protection software on your system?
If possible, build a fresh system with all 3rd party process disabled, or, re-start system in Clean Boot with all 3rd party process disable. Test and confirm that if problem also happens after few days.

I can't think of any relevant third party processes running. I have team-viewer installed, can it cause these effects?
In any case your solution (disabling lock screen via GP) has been working for a few days now. If it will once again stop working I'll try the clean boot.
Thanks!
