Question

Hi there, so recently a game I play - Starbound - updated to a new version, and now requires VC++ 2015. I attempted to install it, but found that just before it finished, the install fails, as does any attempt to repair the installation. I am running on Windows 7 and noticed that I needed Service Pack 1, so I installed that manually and then tried again, and it still didn't work, giving the same error: "0x80070424 - The specified service does not exist as an installed service"
After this, I noticed it produced a logfile, and checked that. Notable errors seemed to be:
Error 0x80070424: Failed to open WU service.
Error 0x80070424: Failed to ensure WU service was enabled to install MSU package.
Error 0x80070424: Failed to execute MSU package.
So I googled around and came to the conclusion something was wrong with my Windows Update. I checked services.msc to see if the service was stopped, and found that it actually wasn't there at all.
Now I'm a bit stuck. I couldn't find anything online about not having Windows Update anymore. Is there a way to install VC 2015 without windows update being present? As aside from this package, I can install anything else that would have needed WU manually. Any kind of workaround or fix anyone has would be greatly appreciated, I've been at it for two days trying to fix this.

Hi JagMarshall,

>>0x80070424 - The specified service does not exist as an installed service
For this error, it is caused by Windows Modules Installer service is stopped or is corrupted.
