Hi

Does InstallShield Limited Edition ready for VS2017 (final) at this moment?

I cannot find InstallShield project template and open existing InstallShield project.

Thanks

Hi Grace,

Thank you for your update.

InstallShield Limited Edition has not been announced yet for VS 2017. As I mentioned in my first reply, the current version is for VS 2015:

https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn531020.aspx

In general, integration of installers with Visual Studio through project templates is inexistent, weak or outdated.

Alternatively you can use any other installer technology (InnoSetup, WiX, etc.) and use MSBuild to launch the installer command-line executable as part of the build of your project.

Flexera have told me that they have no plans to release an InstallShield 2017 Limited Edition and if anyone wants to continue to use InstallShield they will need to purchase InstallShield 2016 Express (or greater) and that this is compatible with VS2017. I have tested this and it seems to work fine.

I have also asked when InstallShield 2017 is being released as it usually comes out around the end of May but not getting any useful information.

This may not be the answer people are wanting but it doesn't sound very promising for a Limited Edition version with VS2017.

Hi Grace Chan,

Thank you for posting in MSDN forum.

Firstly, please check the system requirements, ensure the following is required:

Visual Studio 2017 can be integrated with InstallShield Premier or Professional Editions.

InstallShield Limited Edition for Visual Studio supports the following Visual Studio editions:

  • Professional
  • Premium
  • Enterprise
  • Ultimate

*Visual Studio Community Edition is not supported.

Hi Lana

Thanks for your reply.

I am use Visual Studio 2017 Professional.

The link you provided seems for Visual Studio 2015 only. This is using in my Visual Studio 2015 Professional.

But I need use in Visual Studio 2017 Professional.

Is there InstallShield Limited Edition for Visual Studio 2017?

Or already build in Visual Studio 2017?

Or I still need to download and install it like VS2015 does?

Or InstallShield Limited Edition for Visual Studio 2017 is not ready at this moment?

I don't know is this a bug of VS2017 or I missing some step during installation.

Thanks

Hello.

I am adding up to date information: There is already 3rd party extension for Inno Setup installation system.

It integrates Inno Setup (also NSIS) directly into VS 2017. See marketplace for more4 details: https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=unSignedsro.VisualInstaller

I just got off with a Flexera sales rep who told me that Microsoft didn't renew their license; but they were working on coming out with an updated LE version for 2018.  He expected it to be available in the next couple of months and to cost, in his estimation, "around $30".
