Question
Friday, May 29, 2020 8:19 PM
today I updated from 1909 to 2004, and out of curiosity I looked into the settings app if for any changes.
I noticed that "Device Security" - "Core Isolation" was turned off.
I am pretty sure that was turned on before the update.
Trying to re-enable it failed, blaming two drivers:
BrUsbSib.sys (older Brother MFC Printer / Scanner)
xusb21.sys (possibly XBox controller)
While I had the Brother Printer, it was never connected via USB, and my current one most certainly is not.
I had an XBox controller connected, but did not use it for some time.
I removed the drivers by using "pnputil.exe -d oemxxx.inf" from an elevated command prompt (figuring that removing these 2 drivers will probably not wreck the system, even when they were used),
then I could re-Enable Core isolation again. (was still enabled after reboot).
So my question is: did anyone else see Core Isolation silently being disabled by the Windows 10 20H1 update?
Is this a known Issue?

Hi EckiS,
It is not a known issue.
Tested on my computer from Windows 10 1909 to Windows 10 2004 with core isolation enabled, the option will not disabled after update.
However, according to my research, Core Isolation was turn off by default during upgrade of Windows. But the feature is enabled by default after installation. If some of drivers installed on your computer is incompatibility with new system, it will remainder you to turn off Memory Integrity or turn it off during upgrade. The workaround is upgrade drivers or turn it off before upgrade.
For details, please check:
What are core isolation and memory integrity in Windows 10?

The problem I see is that unused drivers were detected as compatibility problems,
so I could not update them (the devices were nowhere to be found in device manager, even when selecting "Show hidden devices").
I already worked around the problem by removing the unused drivers (see my initial post)

Hi EckiS,
Thank you for your reply.
As TechNet forum not provide log analysis and root cause analysis, so we recommend to create a ticket for checking why and what drivers detected as compatibility drivers.
We could use the following link to create a ticket.
