PowerPoint 2016 video Export - flickering

Question

Friday, February 2, 2018 8:01 PM

Hi, i have a Problem with mp4 Video Export and Powerpoint 2016.

Exported Powerpoint Video is flickering when playing with DXVA2 Video Player.
Flicker occurs on Page Change.

Steps to reproduce:
files can be found here: forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1832556#post1832556
Open Powerpoint 2016, Empty Project, make 2 Pages (first with white background, second black background).
Export Video as mp4.
Play video with MPC-HC - with enabled DXVA2.

tested with MPC-HC(LAV)  and VLC with DXVA2 enabled (nativ and copy back).
tested with Intel HD Graphics, and Nvidia Graphics.

Flickering only occurs when exporting mp4 - no problems with wmv.

Flickering only occurs with Powerpoint 2016 - no problems with Powerpoint 2010+http://skp.mvps.org/videotools.htm

Flickering only occurs with DXVA2 Playback - no Probs with Software Decoder.

is this a LAV and VLC Bug?

regards, onur

Hi onur,

I followed your step to export a video (mp4) from PowerPoint 2016. Tried to open the video with Microsoft Media Player in Windows 10. And I can reproduce your issue. The presentation flickered when changing to new page.

But when I use Movie & TV app in Windows 10 to open it, there is no issue for the video. Not sure if this is an compatibility issue between PowerPoint and Media Player.

I suggest you can submit a feedback in PowerPoint suggestion box:

Currently, please use other media for video player as a workaround.

Best Regards,
Winnie Liang

thanks, Winnie Liang
i cannot use another player. i have build my own seamless video player for a customer.only workaround is not to use Powerpoint 2016 or too buidl wmv(instead of mp4) video with powerpoint 2016.

its not a video player problem, or compatibility issue.
you can repdordeuce it with every video player using DXVA2.
first i thought it is a intel Grafiks problem - but same on nvidia.
for me its a powerpoint 2016 bug.

funny: my win10 media player plays it without problems - but its not possible too check if dxfa2 is used.
