Windows 10 VPN Automatic Configuration/Use Setup Script

Question

Sunday, January 24, 2016 9:37 PM

Hello,

What exactly is the setup script/script address used for under the Automatic Configuration in Windows 10 VPN setup (metro style).  I've tried finding something on this, but I haven't found anything.  Is it a cmdlet/cmd script that you can enter there or something completely different?

Hi dustyb23,

What do you mean by the auto configuration here, regarding the VPN setup?

If you mean the auto connect, then please take a look at the thread below:

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-networking/how-to-automatically-connect-to-a-vpn-in-windows-7/65d5bbd3-f946-4755-9ac9-943651e0e556

Works on Windows 10.

For the auto-configuration from the Settings using scripts, apologize to say that I don't think it should be available, as there should be VPN servers and the User name and Password that would need to input manually.

There is a blog talking about using powershell to configure VPN, see:

I have attached an image below of what I'm referring to.  I'm trying to discover what the setup script is and what it can be used for.

Hi dustyb23,

Currently I didn't find any TechNet articles talking about this. Do you get any process?

There should be article published soon on this topic, I suppose.

Hello,

I realize this was asked months ago, but nonetheless... notice these options are under "VPN proxy settings."  They configure the web browser proxy that should be used when the VPN is connected.  In that way, they are used the same way as the automatic proxy settings in Internet Explorer (or in the new Modern Settings app, under Network & Internet, Proxy), except they only apply when that VPN connection is active rather than full time.

A quick search finds some older documentation on this at https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc985352.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396, but I'm sure with some searching you can find newer documentation on this.  That said, the proxy detection stuff hasn't really changed in approximately forever, so basically anything you find should work.

I have VPN connection to my office. But when it connects I want to add my own routes. Can I use this script option to do it? And how?
