Personal picture not showing on logon screen during startup

Question

Wednesday, September 7, 2016 9:35 PM

Not that this is an earth shattering problem (grin) but I was wondering if anyone has had a problem with their local account picture not showing up on their logon screen in Windows 10, 1607?

I am the only person that uses my  desktop PC and it's located in a secure environment so I chose to continue using my local account on my system vs my LIVE account.  In addition, my environment is secure enough that I also chose to have the system automatically log on so I don't have to enter my password each time I start my system.

Prior to the 1607 release my system would start up and jump immediately to my desktop just as it did in Windows 7.  After 1607 a logon screen will momentarily display before it displays my desktop.  When this logon screen momentarily is displayed, instead of displaying the photograph of me above my first name it instead displays the person symbol that Microsoft provides as an account default in the event that the user does not provide a picture of their own.

Now, I have a laptop that also is running Windows 10, 1607 that's setup the same way as my desktop PC and when I power up my laptop it does show my photograph of me above my first name on that logon screen.  I've double checked my desktop PC and the my picture does properly show up if I go into account settings so I'm clueless as to why the picture shows up on my laptop during startup but not my desktop PC.  Again not an earth shattering problem but I'd like to fix it if possible.

Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1607 for x64-based Systems (KB3189866) released today (9/13/2016) fixed this issue so apparently Microsoft was aware of this issue and took care of it.

In the Start Search type in:

%appdata%\Microsoft\Windows\AccountPictures and hit the Enter key.

Do you see your account picture there?

Open Settings > Accounts > Here you may create your picture or browse for one.

Thanks for the reply.

I went to %appdata%\Microsoft\Windows\AccountPictures as requested and my photograph was present and it's the same photograph that's currently associated with my account in Settings -> Accounts and my account, currently, is the only account on this  PC.

Kate,

Thanks for the reply.  To answer your questions, I only use my local accounts whish is setup to be an administrator on my PC and the photograph is associated with the account because I can see the picture when I go into settings -> Accounts.

My build number is 14393.105 and is fully and completely patched and the last update check was made this morning.

I opened a command window as an administrator, launched Powershell and pasted the Get-AppXPackage command you provided in your post.  Everything appeared to run with no errors but after a restarting my PC the logon screen with my name on it still did not show the picture and instead showed the human symbol that Microsoft provides as a default.
