Control Outlook Add-in timeouts

Question

Friday, September 5, 2014 9:17 AM

Lately, our Company add-in has turned up "disabled" because it use more than 1 second to start.

Is there a way to control the default add-in timeout by registry or Group policy? I see there is also an option to "always enable this addon" for a user to click. Can this addon always be enabled by registry.

Hi,

Outlook 2013 now is stricter when checking add-in performance. If the median startup time exceeds 1000 milliseconds (1 second), then Outlook disables the add-in and displays a notification to the user that an add-in has been disabled.

The user has control over which add-ins run on their computer. For system administrators, Outlook 2013 provides an enhanced level of control over add-ins using group policy “List of Managed Add-ins”. The policy key is as follows:

Key: HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Outlook\Resiliency\AddinList

Name: List of Managed Add-ins

Description: This policy setting allows you to specify which add-ins are always enabled, always disabled (blocked), or configurable by the user.

For more details on how to configure this policy key, please refer to this MSDN article: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/jj228679.aspx#ol15WhatsNew_AddinDisabling

It's recommended to download and install Configuration Analyzer Tool (OffCAT), which is developed by Microsoft Support teams. Once the tool is installed, you can run it at any time to scan for hundreds of known issues in Office programs.

So basically, there is no way to stop the annoying "Add-in had problems" ribbon from popping up every time I start outlook if a plugin that I will not remove takes longer than 1 second to start?  So I guess Microsoft likes annoying their users with useless information and no way to tune it to be more useful?
