Hi Jarvis_992,

If you migrate mailboxes to Exchange online and remove Exchange on-premise, all AD attributes will be stored in Azure. From Exchange online, you can only modify mailbox attributes from the front end, then sync to the back-end, you cannot modify them in Azure directly.

If you want to modify those attributes from the back-end, you need to keep the use of Exchange on-premise (create a hybrid environment), in this topology, you can modify AD attributes from on-premise, then it will sync to Azure automatically.

Kyle Xu

Hi Jarvis_992,

As far as I know, there doesn't have a article go into detail on these object. And, I think the names of these object are easy to understand, you can know their function directly from their names:

Could you tell us, why are you looking for such an article. In fact, we don't suggest you modify object's attribute from ADSI directly. This operation may cause property synchronization problems between Exchange server and AD server.

Hi Kyle,

Many thanks for this.

We are in the process of testing our exchange prem to cloud migration. I could see that only some of the MsExch attributes are populated. I wanted to know what they meant. We are thinking on decommissioning our on prem server after the migration to cloud, what would happen to these attributes if i de-commission the server? Would i still be able to control them via shell when on Exchange online?

Many thanks in advance.

To identify if this AD User is Mailbox enabled or disabled. We just use msExchRecipientTypeDetails in ADSI/Attribute Viewer.
