MSOIDSVC error 0 event after Office 2013 standard installation

Question

Monday, August 25, 2014 9:33 AM

Hi,

I just try to install Office 2013 standard by SW_DVD5_Office_2013_64Bit_English_MLF_X18-54061.ISO.

After the installation, i find that MSOIDSVC error 0 event log will be generated once i start office application. The MSOIDSVC error log will appear even I disable all add-ons and features during installation setup.

However, I find that if i connect the machine to internet, the MSOIDSVC error 0 event log will disappear. It is odd since microsoft never mention office 2013 must have internet access. Any idea about this case? I want to let the error event disappear with no internet access setup.

The error event shows:

The description for Event ID 0 from source MSOIDSVC.EXE cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event:

InitializeSvcAPI failed with hr = 0x80048883

Please help, thanks alot.

Regards,

Andrew

Finally find that disable office network connection under GPO can solve the issue.

Hi,

Does this happen to all Office applications?

It has been mentioned in lots of threads and forums that the error was caused by some third party (non-Microsoft) add-ins/applications.

Please try to run the problematic Office applications in safe mode and check behavior. Or, do a Windows clean boot and see if issue was caused by any program conflicts.

It's recommended to download and install Configuration Analyzer Tool (OffCAT), which is developed by Microsoft Support teams. Once the tool is installed, you can run it at any time to scan for hundreds of known issues in Office programs.

Hi Ethan,

Thanks for reply. I only install World and Excel and the issue happens on both World and Excel . I have tried both safe mode and Windows clean boot, but the errors still generating.

I have installed a fresh OS to test. The error still generate after office 2013 installation.

However, I have some findings about the MSOIDSVC error.

i try to install another version of office 2013 (office 2013 professional plus), the MSOIDSVC error still generating in same senario. However, I find that there is a shared feature called "Business Connectivity Services", once remove it the MSOIDSVC error disappear even no internet access. The problem is I need to install office 2013 standard and there is no "Business Connectivity Services" feature  in office 2013 standard.

MSOIDSVC.exe - Installed as a Windows service with the service name msoidsvc. This is the core component that executes the actual logons and service ticket requests to AD FS and Microsoft Online Services authentication servers.

More reference about it: http://community.office365.com/en-us/w/sso/534.aspx

So, each Office service that has issues to connect to Microsoft Online Service authentication servers might cause this error.

Also, you probably want to check this service - Microsoft Online Services Sign In Assistant service.

I have checked the service but there is no "Microsoft Online Services Sign In Assistant" service. Also I search the "MSOIDSVC" from the whole drives and no such file inside the systems.

I wonder the error is due to some office components  require the MSOIDSVC.exe, hope someone can help......
