Delegated domain name: abc.com.abc.com. [Broken Delegation]

Question

Hello,

I have my DNS server showing Delegation is broken. To troubleshoot the issue, I have checked the following:

No non-existent DNS server record is added in the forwarder or in the name server tab of DNS servers.

All Host (A) records are valid and they are properly updated. There are no DC or DNS server found as tomb stoned.

All existing DC and DNS data replication happen properly across all domain controllers.

However, I have noticed that the Delegation testing is done two times as mentioned below.

Delegated domain name: _msdcs.abc.com.

                        DNS server: dc1.abc.com. IP:192.9.203.10 [Valid]
                        DNS server: dc2.abc.com. IP:192.9.200.242 [Valid]
                        DNS server: dc3.abc.com. IP:192.9.205.58 [Valid]
                        DNS server: dc4.abc.com. IP:192.9.200.208 [Valid]
                        DNS server: dc5.abc.com. IP:192.9.210.10 [Valid]
                        DNS server: dc6.abc.com. IP:192.9.202.10 [Valid]
                        DNS server: dc6.abc.com. IP:2002:c009:ca0a::c009:ca0a [Valid]

Delegated domain name: **abc.com.abc.com.    ** (My domain name is abc.com. NOT abc.com.abc.com)

                        Error: DNS server: dc6.abc.com.

                        IP:2002:c009:ca0a::c009:ca0a [Broken delegation]

Delegated domain name: abc.com.abc.com.     My domain name is abc.com. NOT abc.com.abc.com. But not sure from where is it picking this data.

Could someone please help to identify the cause.

Thanks

Hi Jobish,

Just to confirm whether or not there is a “abc” folder under “abc.com\com” in DNS console.

If yes, remove “com” folder.

Also, check the result of command “nslookup abc.com.abc.com.” on the problematic DNS server.

Candy

Hi Jobish George,

Generally, The domain name is appended twice because it's adding it in the domain suffix search order.

Please first check the NIC IPv4 settings and be sure the DNS suffix is listed properly

In addition, you may check if there was a "abc" folder under the "com" folder in DNS Management > Forward Lookup Zones > abc.com.
