Question
Saturday, December 16, 2017 1:18 AM
As of late, my PC has been just randomly black-screen restarting/crashing. I looked into the event viewer, and the error that seemed to happen every time I crash/what causes me to crash, is, well, "The Downloaded Maps Manager service hung on starting.". To make sure my power and sleep button weren't malfunctioning, today I put them both on "Do nothing", just to make sure and see if that'd stop it. Ontop of that, I also disabled Downloaded Maps Manager, which also may fix it? I dunno. If anyone could figure out what this means and how to stop it, and, well, what I'm supposed to do, that'd be great, however if I do manage to fix it myself I will delete my post. Thanks in advance, though.

Does this result in the bluescreen error perhaps? If so;
See that guide (by Team ZigZag) and upload the dmp files to a file sharing and we can analyse those to try to see the cause.

No, as described in my original post, rather than a bluescreen error, it simply takes my PC down in a black screen whenever it pleases. Also, an update to putting my power/sleep button to "Do nothing", as well as disabling the Downloaded Maps Manager, seems to have done nothing. It happened to me once more, despite me thinking I might've fixed it by myself.

I've tried out your solution, and so far, it seems like it's working. I haven't gotten the usual black screen restart as of today, but I'll see tomorrow if the issue is truly gone, and hopefully my PC doesn't give out on me again by then. Either way, thanks.

Argh, just when I thought it was fixed. 9:50 PM, the latest time I've gotten it so far. Looks like even reinstalling Windows Maps didn't help. If it helps, the moments that it restarts on me don't seem to really have a pattern. I checked the event viewer like last time, and the error that came up for when I restarted states: "The Background Intelligent Transfer Service service hung on starting."

Hi,
BITS is related to your Windows Update or store app updates. If you do not get a map error, I think it is useful to reinstall the Map app. But depending on your bits error, this service or system file is problematic, you can try to fix it by following the link below.
https://www.xtremerain.com/fix-bits-stuck-stopping/
The troubleshoot in Windows Setting, you could find Windows Update and Windows Store Apps option, you could run it to check.
Hope it will be helpful to you

Seems like troubleshooting fixed it! No sudden black restarts yesterday, and if it's truly fixed, hopefully nothing out of the ordinary today either. Either way, thanks, all that contributed to this issue of mine.

Seems like bad luck strikes once again. Despite the troubleshoot, and everything seemingly being fine just yesterday, my computer runs into the issue of just restarting for no specific reason whenever it wants, going into a black screen. Today it happened at 2:52 PM, contrasting to when it last happened, which was pretty late in time. I check the event viewer once again, and this time it states "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.", on the other hand, (not an error), some information stated: "The start type of the Background Intelligent Transfer Service service was changed from auto start to demand start.", which wasn't done by me. If anyone could solve this issue and help me out, that'd be great. On another note, as I use the troubleshooter, the Windows Update troubleshooter specifically, I've used it repeatedly and its said something about a Windows Update Database Corruption? I apply the fix, and it claims that it's rebuilding the database and that the problems are resolved.
-Potential Windows Update Database error detected
-Windows Update components must be repaired
-Check for pending updates
Another small update, now that troubleshoot only shows Check for pending updates.
12/23/2017, Another small update. Issue is still going on, this time it happened at 11:15. Once again, the error in the Event Viewer simply states "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly." I wasn't even in the room at this time, I was busy doing something else, I come back, and my PC was just at the log-in screen, despite me clearly booting it up and logging in beforehand.
Maybe things are looking good? Looks like Windows Update is, well, updating, from the event viewer.

Hi,
If the issues still insists, firstly, you could try to reset the Windows Update Component.
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/971058/how-do-i-reset-windows-update-components
Rename or delete Software Distribution folder
http://www.thewindowsclub.com/software-distribution-folder-in-windows
If these steps don't work, I consider that it is still related to the system file. I suggest that you perform an In-place Upgrade to repair it.

I tried all of your suggestions. Looks like none of them worked, and the issue persists. Once again, the black screen restart happens, "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly." This time it took somewhat long to get to the login screen. Windows was actually updating. "Installation Successful: Windows successfully installed the following update: 2017-12 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1709 for x64-based Systems (KB4054517)", I am really unsure what to do at this point in time..

Update. I'm still lost as ever, and I have no clue or a shred of hope for me. The issue still happens. Random times. But it seems to be in a pattern, one day it restarts, the next day it doesn't. Loop. Anybody, someone, if you have any idea what's going on and how I can stop it, or if you've had this issue before, please help. The absolute last resort I see is just resetting my PC entirely, going back to a blank slate and reinstalling everything I had.

Is everybody as lost as I am?? Is there no solution?? Am I hopeless? Is literally the only thing I could possibly do is just buy a new PC? :\

Sounds to me like a power supply issue. I wish i would've seen this earlier. If its a kernel power error (41) then it has to be related to the power supply going bad. (Time for a replacement). Sorry if this reply was late.. but im providing information for this kind of thing in case it happens to you again.

I can confirm this as being the issue.
