Windows 10 1511 - explorer windows close randomly

Question

Has anyone else experienced file explorer windows closing on their own? I have several users in my company where out of the blue when they browse network drives and have a few windows opened, some of them close on their own. There is no error in the event viewer, no crash report, they just close as if they were clicked on the red X. Explorer process keeps running. I tried setting explorer to launch in separate processes but it did not help.

I am yet to discover a pattern here but from what I heard it's almost always network drives and happens usually after a few minutes or when people come back to the office the next day, they discover a lot of open folder windows have closed.

Thanks

Jakub

here is a similar report for Windows 8, which was due to mapping network drives via group policy:
Windows 8.1 File Explorer unexpectedly closes when on a network drive

Hello,

Please uninstall the third-party software on your system and run SFC /SCANNOW command at administrative Command Prompt and see if that helps.

Hope this helps, Good luck :)

Frankly I have not seen ANYONE...EVER...that sfc /scannow has helped in ANY issue. This time it did not either.
I appreciate your help really, but advising me to uninstall 3rd party software makes an enterprise machine quite useless. How the hell am I supposed to verify if this helps if a user can't do ANYTHING on their machine with all software they use for work GONE? I am scared right now if a Microsoft MVP gives me such a generic advice and goes "hope this helps" at the end. How are people supposed to run their business on a operating system that Microsoft helps to troubleshoot and HOPES it helps? Dreadful...

On a more serious note here, has anyone else seen this behavior? I have the exact same software setup on a Windows 7 machine and this issue does not occur. I have the same setup on many windows 10 machines and it occurs on just a few of them. I have ESET 5 AV software, Adobe Reader DC, 7-zip, Office 2013, Chrome, Mozilla, Slack. Could it be driver issue?

Anyone?

the linked thread has this:
"GPO drive mappings were set as "Replace". I've changed them to "Update" and it appears to have fixed the issue. "

What third party software? The OP doesn't even mention anything like that!

Where on the server or in services on the local machine?

I have the exact same issue. The Windows Explorer closes automatically. I went from a Win 7 to a Win 10. Same software...no differences; and now I have this issue that did not happen on Win 7 machines.

when you have the exact same issue, then you can use the exact same fix: don't use Replace when mapping a share via Group Policy.

I have a 2016 standard server running group policies and 50 users using the current version of windows 10 pro 1803 . We have set the group policies to "update" instead of "replace" this did not fix issue of file exployer closing randomly.

Just discovered the network adapter advanced setting "Energy Efficient Ethernet" and set it to OFF. Seems to have solved the issue on a few systems here.
