Question

I installed the Office Pro Plus 2010 x64 in Windows 7 from the Microsoft download site. When I follow the instructions to activate the programme using the option "Change the product key" a window appears with this message:
"The setup controller has encountered a problem during install. Please review the log files for further information on the error."
I tried unninstalling/installing several times the programme but I always found the same message at the end. Does anyone know how can I solve this problem?
Thanks.

Please go to this page for instructions on ways to enter your product key and activate. You probably need option 3:

Here is one link that should help you: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928218
You should uninstall Office suite completely and this article will guide you how to manually remove Office suite.
Hope it works for you.

Hello
In my case "Change" option in "Programs and Features" didn't respond as well as "uninstall" button. So i had to enter License Key launching "setup" app. from MS Project 2010 installation package

Hello,
When I tried to activate the Office 2010 I got error “The setup controller has encountered a problem during install. Please review the log files for further information on the error” and then I tried to run the office 2010 setup.xe again I got Enter a Product Key option.
I activate the Office 2010 now without any issue.

OK, but my concerns are:
1) wont that override my original purchased product key?
2) I never saw anything on the Office 2010 Pro Plus which stated "beta"...so how to know if it'll work?
3) wouldnt it also be a temporary key?
My activation red bar suddenly appeared after uninstall/new install of Norton IS/Norton A/V....
sadly I didnt think I needed to write down separate listing of my MSOffice key someplace other than the computer...when I bought the computer from Panasonic- I bought it with pre installed office 2010 Pro+
