Error installing Visual Studio 2015 Shell (Integrated) - Error 0x80070490: Failed to find expected public key in certificate chain

When installing Visual Studio 2015 Shell (Integrated), I noticed the error: 0x80070490: Failed to find expected public key in certificate chain.

We have an installer sent by our company's global IT sector (ADP Systems) that we already use for other machines and installed correctly.

I put below the part of the Log that contains the error:

What is your Windows System? And how did you install Visual Studio 2015 Shell (Integrated)?

Before the installation, please ensure that your Windows is up-to-date, clean %temp% folder and temporarily turn off any anti-virus software.

In order for us to investigate this further, please provide us with relevant logs. You can download and run this collect.exe tool, go to %temp% folder and find the vslogs.zip file, upload it to https://onedrive.live.com/ and share the link in here. Thanks for your understanding.

It is that to perform the installation I need a temporary Adm access and it takes approximately 1 day for approval.

Hi Anna!

We made several attempts, including deleting the contents of the TEMP folder, as suggested, but we have not yet been successful. It is strange because we have other machines, with exactly the same configuration and we were able to install normally.

Here are some considerations:

  • What is your Windows System?
      Windows 10 Enterprise.

  • How did you install Visual Studio 2015 Shell (Integrated)?
      We have an executable that was sent by the Global area that manages the Microsoft contract for our company (our company is ADP Systems), as follows:

  • Before the installation, please ensure that your Windows is up-to-date.
      Our infra area ensures that the latest update patches are always installed.

  • clean% temp% folder.
      We cleaned the folder before installation.

  • Temporarily turn off any anti-virus software.
      We have no way to disable Anti-virus, as per company standards. But I believe that this is not a problem, since we were able to carry out installations on other machines previously.

  • In order for us to investigate this further, please provide us with relevant logs. You can download and run this collect.exe tool, go to% temp% folder and find the vslogs.zip file, upload it to https://onedrive.live.com/ and share the link in here.
