Question

Does anyone have instructions on the proper way to dissolve and then rebuild a cluster without destroying the VM's (On a SAN LUN). Thanks I appreciate it!

Hi,

If you destroy the cluster, the virtual machine data will remain on the CSV volume.

Before destroying the cluster, you should remove all the highly available virtual machines from the cluster, this does not delete any information about the VM, except for the knowledge of the cluster and the Hyper-V hosts that are part of the cluster.

If you still feel unsure about this, you can always test this out with a single virtual machine.

After you have rebuilt the cluster, simply present the CSV disk to the new cluster and add it to the cluster, then import each VM back into the cluster, select the option to import in place and it goes very quickly.

Also make sure you also have backups of the VMs.

Hi,

Thanks for posting in our forum!

For how to destroy the cluster, you can see here:

When you rebuild the cluster, you just need to connect the cluster to the storage again, and then add the virtual machine to the cluster again.Hope this can help.

Daniel
