Question

Hi All,
Since we've upgraded to Office 2016 and started using outlook 2016 on some of the users the outlook calendar popup reminders aren't working.
We've tried the command to clear reminders and freebusy but nothing works.
There was a suggestion I found to delete a registry key but not sure what the key is or what exactly it does with reminders.
This is the key location: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\xx.0\Outlook\Options\Reminders
This is the key to delete: WindowsPos
Anyone can explain this key and what it does with reminders within outlook and also does any know what could be causing calendar popups not to work in outlook but they do work in the web version.
Users are not allowed to use the web version so this is not an options for pop up reminders.
Thanks for any help...

Hi,
Sorry for delay.
Does it works if remove WindowsPos key in Registry?
Please try:
- Close Outlook.
- Press Windows key + R to open the Run command, type regedit and press Enter to open the Registry Editor.
- Locate HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\xx.0\Outlook\Options\Reminders (where xx is 16 for Outlook 2016, 15 for Outlook 2013).
- Find and delete the WindowsPos name from the right pane.
- Restart Outlook.

Hi,
From your description, I know that Outlook reminder not works after upgrade to Outlook 2016, and run "outlook.exe /cleanreminders" without effect.
If I mislead your concern, please feel free to let me know.
WindowPos is used when Reminders window stuck on top of the main window, you can try it and test.
Note: please backup the register before modify it, also the WindowPos value will get recreated once Outlook launches.
Moreover, try to run Outlook with Safe mode to check, and disable suspicious add-ons if it works.
Also, try to repair Outlook to testing.

Hi
Thanks for the response...
We've actually tried the outlook safe mode and repair on a users machines but still no luck.
We've even tried to create a new outlook profile but it still doesn't popup the reminders.
Aside from completely creating a new user profile in windows we're looking for a fix before resorting to this step.
Thank you

I have Office 365 ProPlus and have done everything in this thread to repair the problem and still I am not getting reminders popping up. I do hear the tone... but the reminder doesn't pop up on the screen.

I have tried all the previous fixes and none have worked.
However, when I run Outlook in Safe mode (by typing "Outlook.exe /safe" in the start menu and pressing enter) the reminders work.
Is that a hint? There must be a better way than running Outllook in safe mode.
Thanks

Hey Vinnie,
I was in the same boat. In my case, I solved the issue by disabling an add-in (Avaya Collaboration add-in).
I recommend trying to run Outlook in safe mode by typing Outlook.exe /safe in the start menu and pressing enter. If Outlook opens and the reminders work in safe mode, it's likely an add-in that's causing the issue. You can disable and remove these add-ins from the Add-ins section of the Options dialogue, opened from the File menu.
Hope this helps!

Thank you Jordan for this!!! I had just installed the Avaya OneX Communicator on my PC and didn't associate the reminders stopping after that install until reading your message. After disabling the add-in in Outlook and restarting Outlook, my reminders window worked!!! Thanks again!

A year after your comment, this was the same issue for me for two users. I disabled Avaya add-in and calendar notifications instantly popped up.
Thanks!

We are seeing this issues with new installs of Windows 10, after each OS upgrade the Outlook issue returns. The problem on our machines is the reminder popup is opening behind other applications (e.g., word) so the user never sees the reminder.
After removal of the WindowsPos key the window now shows to the front.

I did everything as you said. The reminder does not pop-up. What to do?

I have followed all of the advice I can find for this issue. Still no luck!
Office 2016 and Windows 10 Pro Version 1709 OS Build 16299.1087
Things I have tried:
- Reminder check box enabled in Outlook Advanced settings
- Ran Outlook /cleanreminders
- Ran Outlook /resetfolders
- Ran Outlook /safe.
- Checked registry settings
- Deleted WindowPos from registry
- Disabled all add ons
Nothing has worked. This is impacting a few users. I am frustrated. Should I open a support case with Microsoft?
