Restart required after installing VC++ 2012 Redistributable x64??

Hello all,

I tried to install vc++ 2012 redistributable x64 from this location

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30679

After installing, Setup required to restart the machine? However, i am seeing this behavior on some of the machines only

I have tried this on Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1

Anyways, the 2010 versions and earlier versions never had the system to be rebooted?

Can anyone tell me why this is required?

The Windows Installer can determine when a reboot of the system is necessary and automatically prompt the user to reboot at the end of the installation. For example, the installer automatically prompts for a reboot if it needs to replace any files that are in use during the installation.

If you need to reboot, this means

1. Some files are locked and needs to be update

2. OS needs restart to enable some service you haven't enabled on your OS.

So it depends to your OS status.

I am requesting a context to your comment... Are you stating that there are issues due to the number of times that you are having to reboot a single server or that you are having to reboot multiple servers upon the installation of MS Visual C++ Redistributable.
