Question

I have a silly question but I can't find the answer. Can you have forward lookup zone and conditional forwarding at the same time? I have a forward lookup zone for another domain setup but I need to create a conditional forwarder to setup a trust relationship but when I try to setup the conditional forwarder it tells me the zone already exists. I am assuming it is meaning the Forward Lookup Zone. So if I have the forward lookup zone do I still need the conditional forwarding or do I need to remove the forward lookup zone to create the conditional forwarding?

Hi Anleifr,
Since there is an existing forward lookup zone, we could not create a conditional forward pointing to the same domain.
Here is the reference for conditional forwarder:
Understanding forwarders :

Besides, about the problem of creating trust relationship, we could post in the forum for directory service:

By the way, setup as it is, it will not allow me to create the Trust.
"The New Trust Wizard cannot continue because the specified domain cannot be contacted.
Either the domain does not exist, or network or other problems are preventing connection."

Ok, thank you. So, for a trust, would it be better to remove the forward lookup zone and create a condintional forward instead?

Hi Anleifr,
I'm afraid I could not provide the accurate answer.
Posting in the forum for directory service is a better choice and you would get more professional and accurate answers.

Leo

Thank you. I figured it out. I removed the Forward Lookup Zones, then once that was done, I was then able to create the Conditional Forwarders. Once the Conditional Forwarders were in place I was able to create the Trust Relationship. So two things solved here, one you can't setup a Conditional Forwarder if you already have a Forward Lookup Zone setup for that domain and two, you can't setup a Trust Relationship with a Forward Lookup Zone, you have to have at least a Conditional Forwarder.
Thanks!
