Windows Server 2012 AD-DS can not be configured or uninistalled (Microsoft.Directory.Services.Deployment.DeepTasks.DeepTasks not found)

Question

Wednesday, December 19, 2012 1:27 PM

Good Afternoon everyone,

I am currently trying to promote my 2012 Server to a Domain Controller but when I am at the first step in the setup I get the Error Message

(Translated to English):

Error while determining, if the Targetserver already is a Domain Controller: The Type [Microsoft.Directory.Services.Deployment.DeepTasks.DeepTasks] was not found: Make sure, that the assembly, that contains this type, is loaded.

Thus I can neither Configure the AD-DS nor deinstall them via Server Manager. Any Help how to fix that problem would be greatly appricieated.

Thanks for that quick answer but I have already tried to setup the Forest via PS, I always get the Message

please use the server manager and configuration wizard to promote the DC as Power shell is not meant for new users.

Installing Server 2012 as Domain Controller itself is not a problem, I have done that before - the problem is that some strange binary seems to be missing

Are you installing DC with the help of set-up answer file?

Please do paste the exact power shell command you are typing seems there is a mistake in the command.go here and check the command on the last page.

The exact command is

PS C:\Users\Administrator> Install-ADDSForest -DomainName corp.wanted.or.at

Then I am promted to specify the SafeModeAdministratorPassword and I do so:

SafeModeAdministratorPassword: ********

And now I get the Error Message:

Install-ADDSForest : No Poisitionparameter found that accepts the Argument "ConfirmSafeModeAdministratorPassword"
In Line:1 Char:1

  • Install-ADDSForest -DomainName corp.wanted.or.at

Of Course, but it is in German as I am using a German Server 2012

I have actually been thinking about resetting to the last Hyper-V Snapshot but as I have installed Sharepoint, TFS and the Project Server since then I would like to do that as a last option

Hi,

You’d better to submit a new question to TechNet German Windows Server Forum. In this way, your issue can be fixed effectively. As this is a English forum, we don’t understand German.

Thanks for your understanding!

That's propably a good idea but I guess that the english speaking forum is higher frequented than the german one. I also understand that you do not speak german and thus do not understand the error message, but thats why I have translated it to english and as you can see there are other people with the same error aswell

I am having the same problem as Daniel. If I were Daniel I'd be ticked off at the lack of response - it has nothing to do with German or English.

The problem is occurring when I attempt to run ADDS Configuration Wizard from Server Manager. It is returning the screen shot below.

The type in question is Microsoft.DirectoryServices.Deployment.DeepTasks.DeepTasks.

The second problem is when I attempt to remove the half-configured AD Domain Services role it gives a similar error (see screen shot #2).

It seems that it is missing a .NET assembly. Can you tell us either which assembly to add and where to add it or how to manually uninstall the role?

Thanks...Craig.

Hi,

have you try this, using the Parameter -SafeModeAdministratorPassword direct with a securestring, and corp.wanted.or.at --> "corp.wanted.or.at"

$mySMAP = Read-Host "Enter the SafeModeAdminPassword" -AsSecureString
Install-ADDSForest -DomainName "corp.wanted.or.at" -SafeModeAdministratorPassword $mySMAP

Best regards
brima

That works for me while trying to install a new Server 2012 Domain Controller. It seems, you cannot specify the Safemode-Pasword direct with the Paramater -SafeModeAdministratorPassword

Hi Daniel,

I had this same issue while I logged on with a delegated admin account. When I logged on with THE administrator account the message disappeared. The difference between these users are these groups:

 Group Policy Creator Owners
 Organization Management
 Authentication authority asserted identity
 Denied RODC Password Replication Group
 High Mandatory Level

Oh, by the way, we have Exchange installed.

Had the same problem twice. Time is the Answer.

I have 8 location with 10 DC (Server 2008 R2) over VPN connected and my new DC (Server 2012 R2) was syncing Data from the slowes DC. Two Hours later, the Message was gone and the new DC working fine.
