Windows automatically deleted my private network and created a new public network when I changed Router/Modem at the request of my ISP. How can I change back to a private network?
Also, the computer refuses to recognise the printer/scanner, saying that it is turned off. This may be due to the public status of the network

Open File Explorer, go to the Network section. A tooltip should display saying 'Network discovery is turned off. Network computers and devices and not visible. Click to change...' click that. Select Private network.

Hi,
Navigate to this path:
Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center\Advanced sharing settings
Make sure all options have been turned on.
Then, you could use registry method to modify network type, specific path is:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\NetworkList\Profiles
For more information please refer to this link:

Hi Mr Trub
If you are running Windows 10 release 1703 (the latest), you will find that Microsoft has removed the ability to change your network from public to private using Settings or Control Panel. Now you need to use PowerShell (I know it's ridiculous, so difficult to improve your devices security now!) or delete the network profile and let it be re-created. This link describes the resolution using PowerShell.
How to Change Network to "Private Network" from Public
Good luck!
