Which account to use to configure DNS update

Question

Thursday, August 24, 2017 3:11 AM

Hello,

BPA results for a Windows Server Essentials 2012 R2 say that "Credentials for DNS update should be configured if secure dynamic updates is enabled and the domain controller is on the same host as the DHCP server."

As the number of users is limited to 25, is it OK to use the domain admin account for DNS update?

Thank you

Of course you can, it’s doesn’t matter with number of users. Or you could use a account member of DnsUpdateProxy Group(DNS clients who are permitted to perform dynamic updates on behalf of some other clients (such as DHCP servers).

To configure credentials for dynamic DNS update

1Click Start, point to Administrative Tools and then click DHCP.

2In the console tree, right-clickIPv4, and then click Properties

3Click Advanced, click Credentials, type the credentials that the DHCP server supplies when registering names using DNS dynamic updates, and then click OK.
