Question

This error has been killing my workday.

I've installed Visual Studio Community and SSDT several times in a variety of different ways and I continue to get this error whenever I try to create a new Analysis Services Project.  I've also reinstalled SSMS several times. Does anyone know how to fix this?  Please help!

Thanks!!

I was able to fix it.  I'm going to reply to my posting in case it helps someone else down the road.

The solution that worked for me was to uninstall both Visual Studio and SMSS.  When I uninstalled SMSS, I saw some files that gave the appearance that I might have some crap left over from a prior installation of SMSS, so I wonder if that was the culprit.  Anyway, I uninstalled SMSS as well.

A suspicion that a friend and I had is that the sequence of the installation might also be related to the problem.  So, after rebooting Windows, we installed SMSS first (I think it had been installed with VS before), and then installed VS.  Then, after opening VS, I went to the Extensions and Updates menu under Tools where I installed SSAS (and SSRS, which I also needed).

After completing the installation, I rebooted once more and tried VS again.  I was able to start a new Analysis Services project as well as open an existing SSAS project.  Finally!!  I hope this helps someone!

You don't need to uninstall anything!

You can instead delete the Workspace Database - this should solve the issue.

The Workspace Database is the cube with the GUID at the end - e.g. MyTabularDatabase_USERNAME_c8eb12d6-f81f-4166-a0f1-d0f293af9164
