There was a problem resetting your PC

Question

Thursday, November 29, 2018 2:38 AM

Dear all,

I have a 16GB hard drive laptop that's been running out of space due to oversized Windows Updates for a long time. (Thus it hasn't done a Windows update in months.) Finally, I'm just planning on wiping it totally clean and resetting to factory setting.

However, as I'm resetting it, I get the lovely response of "There was a problem resetting your PC." After I opened the SETUPACT log in $SysReset, I got the following errors :(

Any suggestions? THANK YOU ALL in advance!

Hi,

Issue with system freezing during an attempt to reset your Windows 10 could be hanging due to a corrupted file which cannot be established during the process.

According to your description, it sounds like that the system couldn’t assign a recovery image in order to Reset your installation. Or the system partitions containing the factory recovery image have been deleted.

So I suggest that you could download the Windows 10 ISO file to repair or clean install your system. Make sure you install the same Edition of Windows 10 (Home, Pro . . . etc.) you previously had installed to avoid Activation issues
Click this link:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-downlo...
to download the Media
Creation Tool (Click on Download Tool Now), with that you can download the latest Windows 10 ISO (Select Create Installation Media for Another PC), you can create a bootable USB flash drive (min 8GB) using that tool.

Then, Boot your PC from the Installation Media you just created (change Boot Order in your BIOS) to begin installing Windows 10.

Regards,

Hello,

Try the 'Refresh Windows' tool from Microsoft to fix resetting problem:

If issue still persists, go ahead and make clean install.
