Restarting IIS fails from command line using IISReset /force

Question

Hi Guys,

The is my first post on IIS so thanks in advance, i have to say from the start, i know little about IIS but have a big problem so any help would be good.

My problem is on a Exchange Server but relates to IIS, I am in the process of upgraing Exchange 2010 to SP2 however when it comes to the SP2 setup when it needs to restart IIS using command line iisreset/ force it is not restart and the installation fails.

Here is my thread about it on Exchange, but nothing has worked so far

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/exchange2010/thread/a570463c-3582-44bf-8a9f-0ada4156efe2

I have manually tried the command and it either fails with the service did not start in a timely fashion'' or dependancy error'', I do not have any problem if i resart either IIS Admin or WWW service just from Services but i get these errors only when try to use iisreset command.

Does anybody know how i can fix this because without being able to successful restart the service using that method then i cannot upgrade to SP2 and half of the roles are already upgraded(it didnt roll back after error) and im left in a pickle.

Thanks

Hi,

Could you please manually run the command, then check Windows Event log, post the detailed description of relevant event here?

You can also install the following hotfix to see if it address this issue:

FIX: Windows Process Activation Service (WAS) does not start when you use the IISRESET /RESTART command to restart IIS 7.0 or IIS 7.5

Thanks.
