Question

I have an issue with the Excel 2016 and 2019 Preview Pane.
File, Open, Browse, (click the "Show the preview pain" if the previewer not open), click on an Excel file.
It gives the error message in the preview pane of "This file can't be previewed because of an error in the Microsoft Excel previewer".
With Excel closed, if I open File Explorer, the File Explorer Preview pane works on Excel files.
If I leave File Explorer open, previewing any Excel file, the preview pane works in Excel!
If I open Excel, and then use File Explorer to preview Excel files, it gives the same error message in File Explorer.
Something in Excel is breaking the previewer. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Michael1000,
I can reproduce this behavior in my environment, Office 365 and Windows 10.
I find many users have this problem and I tried all suggestions they provide, but no luck.
I find the KB article and find "Excel doesn't display a preview of the Excel files by default", maybe this is the reason of the problem:

Emi Zhang

Hi Emi,
Thanks for checking back. This was on a customer's computer, so it took me a bit of time to get back on.
I tried the instructions, but did not see an Advanced Properties button, after selecting File and Info.
