Question
Thursday, June 9, 2016 5:35 PM
I have two headphones on my laptop, one USB and one "classic". Both are listed as "speakers" in Sound preferences (Windows 7), therefore not allowing to select the "Headphone virtualization" enhancement.
Is there a way to tell Windows "this is actually a headphone" ?
Regards,
David

Hi,
Thanks for your post.
According to my research, you could look into your Audio settings software Might be Reltek audio and see if there is back and front jack controls.
Go into your realtek audio manager. If there isn't an icon in the bottom right, go to control panel, hardware and sound, realtek hd audio manager. In the top right there is a "device advanced settings" where you can select to make your outputs as 2 different streams.
Or In the RealTek Audio Manager, double click the Yellow Folder in the Right panel, and put a check box in Disable front panel jack detection. This will enable the Front Jacks. You then can put the headphones in the front and you can right click the front jack in that same panel and choose Connector Retasking to reassign it for headphones.
If this isn't possible, there is no software solution. You could get a usb to 3.5mm jack.

It is not Realtek and there is no similar app.

Hi,
If no Audio settings software, maybe you could use a usb to 3.5mm jack as a workaround.

I tried a SPEEDLINK VIGO USB Sound Card, but it gives the same options as the existing audio adapters.

Hi,
I checked the thread you posted in other forum and noticed that you were using Plantronics headphone. So have you tried the Software for Plantronics? Maybe you could edit the settings through this software.

Alvin Wang

I tried some Plantronics software, but it has no relevant options or functionality.
Besides the problem is not hardware dependent, it is the same with the mentioned USB audio adapter.
