Hi,
1. >> My current suffix is hsd1.ar.comcast.net.
I'd like to check if your machine is in a domain? If yes, what is the domain name, is it “hsd1.ar.comcast.net”? If yes, your current suffix is a primary DNS suffix placed after the computer to form the FQDN and cannot be removed.
2. >> Remove DNS Suffix so I can use whatever DNS servers I want instead of ISP's.
Do you mean you want to change the DNS server address of the Client? If yes, we can configure the DNS server address in the network adapter properties, like below. Under general tab, you can choose ‘Use the following DNS server addresses' and then type in the IP addresses of DNS servers you want to use.
3. Generally, DNS server address is not related with the DNS suffix appended. DNS server is the server where client request for resolving FQDN. While DNS suffix is the suffix will be appended when client try to resolve a name not use the FQDN. We can configure the DNS suffix below:
By default, it will check 'Append Primary and Connection Specific DNS Suffixes’, when we try to resolve a single lab name, it will append parent suffixes of the primary DNS suffix which is the domain name of the machine.
If we check box “Append these DNS suffixes” and configure DNS suffixes in order, it will append the suffix to the single lab name one by one and try to send the request to DNS server for resolution.
If there’s anything unclear, please feel free to let us know.
