Visual Studio Enterprise 2015 install problems. A setup package is either missing or damaged "cab6.cab"

Question

Tuesday, October 4, 2016 11:28 AM

Hello,

Having trouble installing Visual Studio Enterprise 2015 with Updates using either the web installer or the iso.

Using the web installer I get "A setup package is either missing or damaged" and the installer auto selects "Please provide a location to search for the packages" with the following location pre-populated.

C:\Users\Foreman\AppData\Local\Temp\EAFBC442-5732-4CF1-9AC9-6D7AE7D68729}\packages\communitycore\Setup\cab6.cab

OS: Windows 10

Have tried totally uninstalling VS2015 and installing from a fresh web install link or the iso. Both giving me grief.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Hi Shop,

Welcome to the MSDN forum.

The error message ‘A setup package is either missing or damaged' often means the installer is corrupted and please verify the integrity of the ISO file that you used. You can use the fciv.exe tool to check the SHA1 value of the ISO, the expected value comes from here, any discrepancy means the ISO is corrupted.

Meanwhile, please make sure windows update is up-to-date, temporarily disable any anti-virus software, clean up the %temp% folder and re-run the VS installer as administrator.

*>> the installer auto selects "Please provide a location to search for the packages" with the following location pre-populated. *

When you meet this issue again, you can try to select ‘Download from the internet’ and let the installer to download the necessary files from the internet.

If you still meet the failed installation, I need your help to collect the installation log. Please use http://aka.ms/vscollect to gather the logs. After using it, you will find vslogs.zip under %temp% folder. Please upload the file to https://onedrive.live.com/and share the link here.

Best regards,

Sara

Hi,

Thanks. I did everything you suggested. SHA1 value was fine, delete %temp%, ran as administrator. Sadly still the same error.

The folder you've detailed above doesn't exist, no.

C:\Users\Foreman\AppData\Local\Temp\e2ccc441-0cf4-43f1-9306-c3c1c6cd4ce3}\cab4F7DEE837DFF7D88E4EA825A6F68F405

This doesn't exist.

I've disabled anti virus, tried to install with the default settings, tried to install from the web downloader, tried to install different versions of 2015 (2015 Update 3 and Enterprise 2015). Sadly nothing has worked.

Any ideas as to what I need to do?

Thanks

Hi Shop,

Before you try to install the different VS 2015 version, please uninstall the previous VS 2015 enterprise with updates. Please have a look at this and use the forcibly uninstall command to uninstall.

After that, you can also try to manually removed the related folders and registry keys as below:

  1. Rename or delete folders-
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 14.0
    • C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 14.0
    • C:\users\user\Documents\Visual Studio 2015
    • C:\users\user\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\VisualStudio\14.0
    • C:\users\user\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VisualStudio\14.0
    • C:\users\user\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VSCommon\14.0
  2. Go to the registry editor (start >> run >> regedit) and remove/rename the following registries- (Please back up the registry table before the modification)
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\VisualStudio\14.0
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\VisualStudio\14.0
    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\VisualStudio\14.0
    • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\VisualStudio\14.0_Config

Then followed the installation tips that I described in my previous installation, and use the web installer of the VS 2015 to install.

If the installation still failed, please collect the latest installation like you did before, and it will help us to analysis this issue.

Best regards,

Sara

Hi,

So I did all you said and I also went back to using the ISO file rather than the web installer (Visual Studio Enterprise 2015 SHA-1 = 07C949078F895CE0D9C03A1B8D55571A8C90AC94)

I also manually created  ‘packages\communitycore\Setup\cab6.cab’ by copying it from the ISO file of VS enterprise 2015.

And I got some errors, but different errors.

It told me that it couldn't download some updates (Update 3 and team explorer 3).

But I think that's because of the trust settings on this internet connection (I'm based in a bank...?)

Logs are here;

Hi Shop,

>>But I think that's because of the trust settings on this internet connection (I'm based in a bank...?)

How about your internet connection? Is good or under any proxy setting?

Please Update IE to IE11 and set IE 11 as default browser, then clean up the history data and add the following sites to your IE trusted site: IE—Internet Options—Security—Trusted Sites

https://app.vssps.visualstudio.com/profile/view

https://login.microsoftonline.com

https://login.live.com

I have checked your log file and found the following error message:

>>Error 0x80091007: Hash mismatch for path: F:\packages\VSGraphics\EnableGraphicsTools.exe

>>Error 0x80091007: Hash mismatch for path: F:\packages\JavaScript_ProjectSystem\JavaScript_ProjectSystem.msi

>>Error 0x80091007: Hash mismatch for path: F:\packages\JavaScript_LanguageService\JavaScript_LanguageService.msi

Refer to the error code 0x80091007, I recommend you copy the above file from the ISO file and save it to a new, empty folder and run it as administrator.

Best regards,

Sara

Sigh... I'm beginning to give up hope here.

Tried the above, still having problems. Visual Studio opens and will load a project, but when I try to build I get the error...

"The'Microsoft.VisualStudio.TraceLogPackage.TraceLogPackage" package did not load correctly.

The error message then points me to a log 'C:\User\..\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\VisualStudio\14.0\ActivityLog.xml' which I've taken an extract from below

Hi Shop,

Refer to the error message, please have a try with the following:

1. Delete or rename the following folders:

•C:\Users\your users name>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VisualStudio\14.0

•C:\Users\your users name>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\VisualStudio\14.0

2. Have a look at this similari sisue about the TraceLogPackage, and

Charles R. Owen:

1) Opened the VS 2013 Developer Command Prompt as an administrator

2) Ran the IntelliTraceCore msi directly from the packages folder of my ISO image.

NOTE: You need to ensure you run the correct msi that matches your VS installation.  For example, if you have a 32-bit installation of VS, you obviously need to run the x86 version of your msi.

3) D:\packages\IntelliTraceCore\x86\intelliTrace_net.msi

4) Fire up VS 2013 and select a project.  If the error message has disappeared, then you can assume the package has been loaded.

Best regards,

Sara
