WinSAT on VM's or Hyper-V Stand-Alone

Question

Friday, June 2, 2017 1:31 AM

I am trying to run WinSAT in a 2012 R2 Hyper-V Environment. The VM's say I am unable to run WinSAT on a VM. When I try to run the program on the Hyper-V Stand-Alone host nothing happens. It doesn't even give me an error. Is there anyway of making the WinSAT program work on Hyper-V Stand-Alone or a Hyper-V VM? Or is there an alternative application I can run from the command line that will generate random and sequential read/writes and give me the performance results?

Looks to be a client only tool.

In my VMware environment I can copy the WinSAT.exe from a Windows 10 workstation to the System32 folder on Server 2012 R2 vm's and run the program fine. However in my Hyper-V environment the tool is being blocked from running.

Does not sound like a supported method. You might try this one but again no guarantees.

If you're looking for disk performance testing, diskspd should do the trick: https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/DiskSpd-a-robust-storage-6cd2f223
