W10 Meadia Streaming shows my desired folders, all are "empty"

Question

Tuesday, June 12, 2018 10:21 PM

I can't pinpoint the exact W10 update that started this, but It's been almost 2 years now since it stopped working.

For whatever reason I cannot used DNLA to stream my files from my W10 PC on my network. My Xbox One S, 360, and my Samsung Smart TV can all see my computer. They can see all the video folders. But when I select them the folders are "Empty"

File format: mostly .avi but some .mkv and .wav

I'm on a local network, I've done wired and wireless with no changes. I've disabled and re-enabled the feature with no change. I've re-installed windows with no change.

I can cast the files to my TV or xbox and that works. I can use file manager on other network PC's to see the files. But media streaming just doesn't work anymore

Please help, this is driving me insane.
Thank you

An user in Microsoft Community shared his experience:

>>Well, I have having similar issues - how I fixed it was to go into the File Explorer and click Libraries on the left side.   After that, along the top, selected the part of the ribbon or whatever it's called that it titled Share.  Then I clicked each entry/library in the main pan of the window and in the option in the ribbon I selected "Homegroup (view..." and waited for the progress to finish before moving onto the next entry.  This fixed the problem entirely.

I thought about checking there to see what the sharing settings where set to because I notice that in Control Panel that when I went to check my sharing settings for my Homegroup that everything other than printers was not shared, and changing this and hitting "ok" or whatever didn't seem to do anything (when I went back, everything was back to not being shared).  I couldn't figure out why this was happening, so I checked in File Explore so I could right click the Libraries in there to see what was going on.  that is where I noticed that the sharing check box was not checked and was greyed out.  So I figured using the share options in the ribbon UI might help.

It did, so I can see all of my music, photos and videos on my Xbox One.

Also, look at this case below.

DLNA TV sees folders on PC but no files

Another method:

Type or copy/paste this path into the text box: %userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Media Player and hit the [Enter key].

Delete all the files in this folder -- excluding folders.

To rebuild the database, simply restart Windows Media Player. All the relevant database files will now be created again.

Good luck
