Question
Sunday, July 26, 2020 1:34 PM
On my home Win 10 Pro, I have been using RDP for a long time. I am connecting from inside the same network (laptop to desktop at home). I don't know what changes I might have made to create this issue, but recently my account is locking after a session. I have local policies set to lock accounts after bad attempts, but this is happening every time after a good RDP session is closed, and I have to use another account to unlock it. Any ideas are appreciated.

Hi,
Have we tried to first disabled the local policy "lock accounts after bad attempts" to see if the issue persists?
Also, we could check below event logs on the remote session to see if there is any clue for the account lock.
You can filter event ID 4740 for account lockouts
**Event viewer\windows logs\security **
Event Viewer – Applications and Services Logs -Microsoft-Windows-TerminalServices-local sessionmanager
Event Viewer – Applications and Services Logs -Microsoft-Windows-TerminalServices-remoteconnectionmanagement
Meanwhile, there is another scenario that the user's account is locking out when the RDP session is in a disconnected (inactive) state. If your problem is also this situation, please refer to below.
Actually, if the user doesn’t log out correctly, even though the RDP session is disconnected, remote system still maintains a logon session for this user. During this period of time, there might be a running process that access network resources with outdated authentication information on this logon session.
Then it may cause the account lock issue. To avoid such issue, you could configure session time limits group policy to end disconnected/idle RDP sessions.
User Configuration or Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Session Time Limits.
