Visio 2013 std only shows the "Basic Diagram" and "Blank Diagram" template?

Question

Tuesday, July 7, 2015 10:11 AM

Hello,

We have Visio 2013 std 64bit installed in our Citrix XenApp enviroment, but when users go into Visio 2013 > New they only see the "Basic Diagram" and "Blank Diagram" template.

Shouldn't they see many more to choose from?  I think Visio is locked down so it can.t get to the internet so I'm not sure if that is the issue, any ideas?

Thanks

Fixed.

This GPO was enabled - User Configuration

Policies > Microsoft Office 2013 > Tools|Options|General|Web Options > Hide All Office-provided templates on the Office screen and in File | New.

I set to not configured now.

I'm not entirely sure (others may know for sure) because I don't have Visio Standard, only Visio Professional, but, these other discussions seem to confirm that Standard is less-featured than Professional, even down to the included-templates:

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/home?searchTerm=templates%20missing&category=visio2010&forum=visiogeneral&filter=alltypes&sort=lastpostdesc&brandIgnore=true&page=1

(even though the dedicated Visio forum is labelled 2010, there are lots of 2013 topics in there, and very experienced Visio people in there too)

I don't see any Visio templates in the (Current) Office Templates "store", but that could be due to Visio mainly using stencils and shapes rather than "templates". (I'm not very well versed in Visio-speak, sorry)

Hi,

As far as I know, this issue might be caused by the "Allow Office to connect to the Internet" option unchecked, Please go to File | Option | Trust Center| Privacy Option| Check "Allow Office to connect to the Internet" option.

Hmm that option is checked and greyed out possible via a GPO so I guess it is on.

It sounds like your RDS/XA installation of Visio is either missing the template files, or, isn't configured for the correct File Location to display the templates?

Can you locate the template files (they may be *.VST) on your local PC, and check the same location on your RDS/XA ?

Has to be a GPO, I moved into a new OU and blocked inheritance and all show up now, then I moved back to the OU where it needs to be and all gone again.

I have spent ages looking at he current GPO and cannot see what is causing it :(

I think the template location is modified doe Office Word and Powerpoint, maybe this causes an issue with Visio?

Fixed.

This GPO was enabled - User Configuration

Policies > Microsoft Office 2013 > Tools|Options|General|Web Options > Hide All Office-provided templates on the Office screen and in File | New.

I set to not configured now.

How do I get to access this? I cannot seem to find out to get to the options.

I have Microsoft Visio 2013 Professional installed. And every time I try to create a new diagram, File > New, this screen shows up, I only have Basic and Black Diagrams for selection. And a message "Sorry we had some trouble connecting to get templates and can't show them right now"

I have also checked the "Allow Office to connect to the Internet" option in File | Option | Trust Center| Privacy Option|

  • "Allow Office to connect to the Internet" | Checked | Disabled (Gray-out)
  • "Download a file periodically that helps..." | Un-checked | Disabled
  • "Send us information..." | Un-checked | Disabled
  • "Check Microsoft Office documents that are..." | Checked | Enabled
  • "Allow the research task pane to..." | Checked | Enabled
  • "Turn on the Office Feedback Tool..." | Unchecked | Disabled

So the questions are how can my Visio get/download all the templates online? How can I know if Visio doesn't point to the right templates location (installed on my machine)? How can I follow the FIXED Answer in this topic?

Thank you.

its stupid that one can not control it per application to allow it on visio but forbid it on word.
