Question

Hi,
I recently upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7. I use Chrome as my default browser and I have set Outlook 2013 as my default mail client. When I click on a mailto link in a browser, Outlook 2013 fails to open and I get the error message, "Something went wrong..." I have tried following the directions on this error message, but they did not work. I have also tried to click on mailto links with other browsers (including Edge) and the same thing happens. Outlook 2013 fails to open. Outlook 2013 otherwise works normally. Thanks for your help.
Barbara

Hi Barbara.
Try manually fixing the default apps association: open the Windows Settings and click Default apps on the left; in the Default apps page, scroll down and click Set default by app.
In the Set defaults by app page, scroll down until you find Outlook and click the Manage button.
In the File type and protocol associations page displayed for Outlook, scroll down to the MAILTO protocol type and click on the currently set app to handle that protocol (Windows Mail, in the example below).
Click Outlook to associate Microsoft Outlook to the MAILTO protocol.
Bye.
