Word and Excel won't connect a printer that works with everything else incuding Outlook (all 2013 RTM)

Question

The title says it all really.  Suddenly I can't print to one of my network printers from Word, Powerpoint or Excel, but can from Outlook, Access or Publisher, or in fact any other non-Office program.  The printer shows as ready in the list until I try to select it, then says unable to connect.  Clicking "connect to printer" says "Word could not connect to HPLaserjet".  Need a fast answer on this or I will have to revert to 2010.  I have tried a repair on Office, and rebooted the PC, made no difference.   I am running Office pro Plus 2013 15.0.4454.1004 32 bit on a fully patched Win 7 Pro 64 bit, 16GB RAM, 82% free.  Another network printer works perfectly happily, and it makes no difference whether it is the default printer or not.  Can't think of any other information to supply.

Try the following steps as a quick fix:

  • Remove the Printer from your computer
  • Stop Print Spooler service (Run services.msc to open the Services managment console.)
  • Reboot the computer
  • Update the Printer Driver (Try get the latest version from the manufactory.)
  • Install the Printer again

I realize this thread is a few months old.  I have the same problem and stumbled on this thread while looking for a solution.  It seems you have to re-install the printer driver after intalling MS Office 2013.  I went to Device and Printers and right click on printer then choose Properties, then re-install printer driver.  Everything printed after this.  Hope this will help any late comers looking for a SOLUTION.

Hello, When we try to print from Microsoft Excel 2010, excel crashed. There is no warning message.  Event viewer it showed Excel.exe had an "Application crashes....". Reinstalled printer driver then issue got resolved. Bad part here is Microsoft Excel cannot even handle printer driver corruption issue. Very bad.

None of these solutions is working for me.   I remove the print driver and re-install.  Print test page always works.  I create an empty Excel 2013 workbook, add one number to one cell and I can print.  No problem.  I load a real spreadsheet, I cannot print.  "Current printer is unavailable.  Select another printer."

From Excel I click File then Print.  In the printer box it shows "HP LaserJet M2727 PCL 6..."  and the word "Ready."  I click Printer Properties and "Unable to Connect" is displayed.

Now what?

Try my suggestion :

1. Remove the printer from device and printer.

2. Remove the driver printer cannot be print from print manager.

3. Remove the registry key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Print\Providers ( select user key ) and remove

Restart Computer and try again install printer driver and try to print.

I was able to solve this problem as follows.

I uninstalled the latest Windows Update package and restarted the computer. But don't remember the windows update number.
