Hello,
Whenever a user tries to edit a location (Object 1 =EMBED"Worksheet",<g class="gr_ gr_15 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Punctuation only-del replaceWithoutSep" data-gr-id="15" id="15">""</g>) on an excel file with macros. They receive an error that states "Excel Error: cannot start the source application for this object" When I try to edit the location on my system with a separate office. I have no issues at all, another user had no issue also under their profile (different system).
We have <g class="gr_ gr_11 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Grammar multiReplace" data-gr-id="11" id="11">ran</g> full repairs, full re-installs, even the Microsoft support team had me go through his registry. We also deleted some older excel cache and the user still has issues.
Thanks

Hi,
I don't quite understand your problem. Please provide more information to help me analyze this issue for you:
>> Whenever a user tries to edit a location (Object 1 =EMBED"Worksheet","") on an excel file with macros.
- Is the embedded object a worksheet? How did you insert the embedded object once before? Could you describe the steps in more details?
- What do you mean by ‘an excel file with macros’? An Excel workbook with the embedded object and macros or the embedded object is an Excel workbook with macros?
- Could you tell me how did the user ‘edit a location” ? Double click the object to open and edit in Excel? Where is this location?
>>They receive an error that states "Excel Error: cannot start the source application for this object"
- Does the issue occur on a specific file?
- Does the error message appear when the user edit the embedded object?
>> When I try to edit the location on my system with a separate office. I have no issues at all, another user had no issue also under their profile (different system).
- Is there any difference in Office and OS between your device and the user’s?
- Could you provide the detailed version information of the Excel client and OS that you and the user are using?
Please try to open the embedded workbook directly on the user’s computer to have a check. Moreover, you can check if it can be embedded as object into another workbook properly on user’s computer.
In addition, you can try to open the problem workbook and embedded excel file, use the Check for Issues tool on Excel Info page to check compatibility. Please share the result of your testing with us that may help us have a better understanding on this issue.
For the issue, you can follow the method below to see if it works on the user’s computer.
Disable all Add-ins to check if the issue will still occur. To do this, open Excel Options, click Trust Center Tab > Trust Center Settings > Add-ins Tab, select Disable all Application Add-ins. Click OK.
If you have any question or update, feel free to let us know.
